Pilgrimage on Bute

Join us on a Pilgrimage on the beautiful island of Bute. We have gathered all the information about pilgrimage across Bute, in these pages. Please select the section of the route you would like to follow from the menu at the side of this page. Happy walking.

The Routes

The full walking route follows part of the West Island Way. Starting at the United Church of Bute, at Townhead in Rothesay, you follow a short section which connects to the main route, then, continuing on the West Island Way, finishes at St Blane’s Church, at the south of the island. You can find information about the whole of the West Island Way by following this link: http://www.westislandway.co.uk

Preparing for your pilgrimage – Terrain, weather and safety

The walking terrain varies across each section. Much of the route is over stony roads and tracks, so stout shoes or walking boots are recommended at all times.

Weather changes very quickly in our island setting, and so you are advised to carry suitable waterproof clothing at all times. Much of the route is over moorland in the centre of the island where the views are spectacular, but the windchill can be marked. Please prepare well for your pilgrimage.
